Brian's Story...

Awarded WGBH's 2014 BEST OF BOSTON - TOP TEN PERSONAL TRAINERS

My journey began as a young boy that stood in awe and watched as my father trained his heart out in the sport of bodybuilding. Having virtually grown up in the gym, freeweights and machines became second nature to me, and I knew then that I wanted to lift weights like my father did. Thankfully throughout my childhood my father would stress to me that I could not begin strength training until I was much older, as I needed to allow my body to grow and develop naturally. He also stressed from a very young age, the importance of nutrition, showing his family that we could eat home cooked meals packed full of nutrition and actually enjoy it! Hot dogs and hamburgers only existed for BBQ's... McDonalds and fast food wasn't really appetizing for us. We enjoyed eating and living healthily because Wayne Cimorelli instilled it in us.

Many a trainer has a personal success story of their own that helps them relate to their clients, especially with dramatic weight loss, and having to embark on a lifestyle change. Luckily for me, my father did everything he could to enable me to succeed in life, both in mind and body. I began training martial arts at the age of 7, learning key values such as civil duty, the importance of remaining humble & respecting all living and unliving things that surround us. That was my first real introduction to philosophy, something I also continued to embrace until this very day.

Starting at the 7th grade right through to my junior year of high school I was one of the tallest kids in my age group, and by far the strongest. High school also introduced me to the amazing sports of football, wrestling, and track. Something that forced me to push my body and by endurance to a level I had never experienced before.

My first real introduction to the actual science of the human body unfortunately came through experience. Taking a hard hit while tackling in my junior year of football, I unknowingly created a partial tear in my rotator, which I did the honors of finishing off in wrestling a few weeks later. The injury shaped my life in more ways than I ever know. A torn bicep and deltoid led to an extensive surgery which led to years of re-injury and rehabilitation. After spending long hours in the phgysical therapy office, I began to develop a friendship with the staff, and went on to try to help them in any way I could to facilitate the other patients with their various mobility and stability exercises, reading as much material about the human body and all of the infinite possibilites of injury and their corresponding treatments.

It wasn't until years later I decided to leave the business world of suits and ties, and return to my true passion to help others begin to improve their mind, body and soul through fitness. Martial arts provides my basis for visualising the energies involved with our movements, competitive sports training provides the drive and call for intensity, and a basic inward search of our own spirituality helps us truely feel and embrace the physical and mental changes.

When I decided to begin a career in personal training, I started at the top, Boston's premiere and very exclusive sports club, Equinox. The thrill of working with various celebrities and movie stars was great, but the true highlight of my tenure was being able to work my way through to a Tier 2 trainer in their highly accredited Equinox Fundamentals Training Institution. I had the pleasure of being taught by a large group of highly educated and highly experienced trainers, and absorbed the sciences of Biomechanics & Kinesiology, furthering my already extensive knowledge of Injury Prevention & Rehabilitation, and Strength & Conditioning. I moved on to begin to manage my own training programs at various gyms around the Boston area. By hiring and motivating a team of trainers to "Be Better", I found I could train all of our clients vicariously through my trainers, creating a sort of force multiplier. By overseeing that proper safety was being exhibited and enforced, and also that the clients were being pushed along that fine line of getting great results while still coming back the following day, I could proudly say I played a role in one of the most talented and professional teams existing in the industry.

As a regional manager of my training company I oversaw 5 locations in and around Boston, one of which had 5,000 active members, most dealing with common challenges such as weight-loss and strengthening, but others presented much more complex and challenging issues. I became especially committed to working with rare cases in which Doctors and Physicians have given up hope on them having a chance to live a normal life again, simply because they were deemed too great a liability risk or would require treatments that aren't. Some of my greatest success stories and personal accomplishments have come from helping those classified as "special populations" including knee & hip replacements, mental disorders, cancer, MS, polio, open-heart surgeries & Double-Lung Transplant.

When my passion for helping others and my love of working out could be combined with SCIENCE, an opportunity presented itself. As the magic of human anatomy began to open  biomechanics, kinesiology, psychology, philosophy has learned from and and had the honor of employing some of New England's best trainers. Constantly keeping an open mind, and open ears, The New England Fitness Coalition has come together to stay ahead of the learning curve by learning together & teaching eachother some of the sciences and secrets that have enabled us to be the best at what we do.

After years of running programs in the bigger gyms, I decided it was time to get back to doing what I love most, and began taking on clients through one-on-one personal training.

In 2014 I was awarded, WGBH's BEST OF BOSTON, Top Ten Personal Trainers Award, and I couldn't be anymore honored & thankul for it.

I look forward to helping you realize a new potential for your level of fitness and overall wellbeing.
